Learn electronics by building circuits.

VoltEzy is a hands-on electronics course for your phone. Short lessons explain one idea at a time, then you build it in a live circuit simulator, from your first LED to a 555 timer.

The VoltEzy course path, with the first Section 1 lessons completed.
A concept lesson from Meet electricity: charges stand still and the lamp is off, then the charges move and the lamp lights up.

How VoltEzy teaches

The course switches between short explanations and hands-on work, so you never read for long before you get to try the idea yourself.

Funda lessons

See the idea before the formula

Each concept lesson covers one idea in a few short screens. Animations show charges moving, lamps lighting up and meters responding, so voltage and current make sense before any maths appears.

From the course

  • Meet electricity
  • The push: voltage
  • Ohm’s Law
  • The voltage divider
The voltage divider lesson: two resistors in series across 9 volts, with the output taken from the point between them.

Build lessons

Then build it in a live simulator

Build lessons give you a goal and a workbench. Add parts, wire them up and press play. The circuit is simulated as it runs, so closing a switch really starts the current, and the scope draws exactly what happened.

  • MetersA voltmeter and ammeter to measure across a part or through a loop.
  • OscilloscopeWatch current change over time and match a target trace.
  • Adjustable partsChange resistance, voltage or capacitance and see the effect straight away.
  • Safe failuresShort a battery or overload an LED and see what happens, with nothing to replace.

The simulation engine is the one inside VoltSim, our circuit simulator app with over 500,000 downloads on Google Play.

A build lesson: after the switch closes, the LED lights and the oscilloscope trace matches the target at 100 percent.

Fix lessons

Find the fault, then fix it

Every fix lesson starts with a broken circuit and a symptom: a lamp that stays dark, a glow that’s too weak, a power supply that hums. You run the test, measure, work out what’s wrong and repair it. Debugging is a skill of its own, so it gets its own lessons.

From the course

  • Fix: the dark circuit
  • Fix: the drooping reference
  • Fix: the humming supply
A fix lesson: a pocket lamp with a 3 volt battery and a 330 ohm resistor stays dark, and the goal asks you to find and fix the fault.

Quizzes and progress

Check what stuck, and keep going

Short quizzes follow each topic, and the app keeps track of how far you’ve come, so it’s easy to pick up where you left off.

  • ExplanationsTap Explain after any answer to see why it’s right or wrong.
  • XP and levelsEvery lesson earns XP toward your next level.
  • Daily streaksA little practice each day keeps your streak going.

The course

107 lessons across six sections. You start with what electricity actually is, and finish building timers, camera flashes and smooth power supplies.

  • Funda
  • Build
  • Quiz
  • Fix
  • Project
  1. Basics

    13 lessons

What electricity is, what pushes it, and how to build, break and fix your first circuit.

    • Meet electricity
    • Ohm’s Law
    • Opens and shorts
    • Build the flashlight
  2. Components

    17 lessons

Resistors, LEDs, capacitors, diodes, switches and pots. Read their markings, learn their symbols and build with them.

    • Reading a schematic
    • Build: the one-way street
    • The parts-bin gauntlet
    • The dimmable night-light
  3. Simulator

    19 lessons

The workbench, feature by feature: build, tune, measure, break, repair and debug until the bench answers to you.

    • Meet the oscilloscope
    • Build: blow it up (on purpose)
    • Fix: the feeble glow
    • Your circuit, start to finish
  4. Circuits

    19 lessons

Series and parallel, the voltage divider and Kirchhoff’s two laws: the tools that crack any DC schematic.

    • Parallel: more lanes
    • Build: tap the midpoint
    • Fix: the missing volt
    • Feed the gadget
  5. Capacitors

    25 lessons

Charge, timing and choosing the right part, all built and tested on the bench.

    • Fast, then slow
    • Build: a one-second timer
    • Fix: the backwards can

  6. Capacitors at Work

    14 lessons

Camera flashes, smooth power, blinking timers and clean supplies for chips.

    • Build: camera flash
    • Smooth the ripple
    • Blink with a 555
    • Keep it blinking

Questions

Something else on your mind? Email us at voltezy.app@gmail.com.

Is VoltEzy free?

Yes. VoltEzy is free to download and has no ads, and right now every lesson in the course is free.

Do I need any electronics experience?

No. The first lesson starts with what electricity actually is. Each idea builds on the one before it, and the maths only arrives once you’ve seen what it describes.

Do I need to buy components?

No. Every build happens in the simulator on your phone. Along the way you also learn to read real parts, their markings and the safety basics, so you’re ready when you do pick up a breadboard.

Which devices does it run on?

Android phones running Android 7.0 or later, through Google Play. The iPhone version is coming soon to the App Store.

Does it work offline?

Yes. All the lessons are built into the app, so you can learn without a connection.

How is VoltEzy different from VoltSim?

VoltSim is an open-ended circuit simulator: a blank canvas for designing whatever you like. VoltEzy is a guided course built on the same simulation engine, with lessons, goals and feedback. Start with VoltEzy if you’re learning, and use VoltSim when you want to design your own circuits.

What data does VoltEzy collect?

Your progress is saved on your device. We use crash reports and basic analytics to find bugs and improve the app. We don’t show ads and we don’t sell your data. The privacy policy has the details.

Start with lesson one.

“Meet electricity” is the first of 107 lessons. VoltEzy is free on Android, and the iPhone version is on its way.
